The first day after the group has stayed in the Monastery of the Eagles and the group went to get food for the expedition into Mount Llanos Gustav brings Ethelred some mushrooms back as well.
“Hey Red. What are the mushrooms for? The don’t look edible.”
Making sure that Alexis and Red are alone. Red speak quietly.
“To be honest. I am not sure. Sometime after the magical grove I have felt like I needed some mushrooms. Like a distance whisper? Like some desire that comes from within, but also is not quite me…..
To be honest I am not sure. But materials are always helpful to have close at hand.”
“Path of the Peacemaker stuff? Could you recreate the concoction from Borra Bloodfist? Or are you feeling an urge for something else?”
Alexis looks at Ethelred with both interest and concern.
“It feels a bit like an itch that you want to scratch, but if asked why.. what would you say?”
“Are you asking why would I want to scratch an itch?”
“To stop it itching.”
“Are these mushrooms for a rash?” Alexis asks, half joking.
“Ha.. yeah I guess not scratching it. ”
Awkward pause..
“But then what is the harm.
I can think of many thing mushrooms could be useful for.
Poison, healing, eating, visions, insights, darkness, revealing, obscuring, distraction, focus.. just to name a few.
Are you worried that I want mushrooms?”
“Not exactly.” Alexis leans back slightly. “But I’m the one responsible for this group. That means I need to know what might come back on us, and what we have to work with.” He pauses. “You’ve been learning things since Sutheron. I haven’t been keeping up. The less I understand about what you can do, the worse I am at my job.”
Alexis looks at Ethelred, expectantly.
“I view my learning of magic so far like building a house. What you keep wanting to know is where is the ceiling. I am still working on laying the full foundation, haven’t yet to really build a full wall.
The mushrooms are separate from my learnings from the scrolls. This I will admit is something different. I under stand it about as much as I understand your divine magic. There is something within me that wants mushrooms. Spooky really.
Normally I would probably just ignore this type of impulse, desire… unless it was for a woman……………..
But this urge seemed like a vague premonition. Maybe being around those that get visions, dreams and insights from the Gods is rubbing off on me.
I wish I knew why I want mushrooms. If I thought Raiden would answer I guess I would ask him.”
Red chuckles a little at this last statement.
Alexis nods along.
“Keep me informed of this. And anything else that feels ‘spooky’.”
“Other than all your god magic, this whole area with it’s many layers of magic.. nope.
Just hoping to get a good rest before heading to Fellejsby.”
