Early in their stay along the Llanos river Alexis sits down next to Ethelred on the same log. Alexis starts talking when Ethelred looks up from his reading materials at him.
“Poor girl. I hope she doesn’t get herself killed before we get back. A lot of potential in our little miss of house Veronia.
“She’d sure like a message.” Alexis says, clearly intent on not going out of his way to make this happen.
“We shouldn’t have tempted her. She is too young and too eager for her own good. Could she become an adventurer? Maybe. I share you concern that she will be her own down fall. Best we keep our hands clean.”
“The eagerness is good for her, and I hope she puts it into some good skills before we cross paths again, possibly in a tomb.”
“How are the studies coming?”
Ethelred looks away for a moment at the mention of studies.
“You know who we should write a letter to is Mavon. We left without really telling him. He is part of the team. The sooner he knows at least that we will not be back right away, but are alive, the better.”
Alexis claps Ethelred on the back. “Yeah, he’s already on my list. Now we just need our young Collegium acolyte” Alexis claps Ethelred on the back again “to learn how to send messages at great distances. Once you can do that, I’ve got a mountain of correspondences to send.” Alexis says light-heartedly. He then looks into the distance, thinking.
“Mechanical carrier pigeons? A carrier pigeon roost that lures pigeons and then sends them where they need to go? Or metal plates that have been attuned to vibrate at the same rates? Keep one with us and one with Mavon? Well, I trust you’ll think of something after that flaming knife assignment.”
“From a practical stand point learning to scry might be a good first step.
While not exactly what you want, if you could make 2 items that could ‘scry’ on each other you would have mostly what you want. Like two mirrors linked..
Two of the right crystal might work. One crystal, empowered and then broken into two equal parts….
Twin animals.. nah too complicated.
Yes, I see how something like this could be done. With enough time, materials and study.
Why not.”
“Red, I love to watch your brain work and your ideas flow. I look forward to us having more time to see more of your creations.”
“I’m not sure I fully expressed how excellent your ballista was.” Alexis beams a smile “Masterful. Your small door at the hells-pit. Inspired.”
