Trap Hows

In a moment with Gustav:

“If you had to take down a really big animal, like an elk or a bear, say to feed a big hungry group right as fast as possible, and your bow was broken, and you didn’t have any bow-making tools, how would you do it Gus? What kind of traps would you use?”

About Rask

Rask Fellmar of Thater that Was. Rask was born in the small village of Thater, not far from East Pass Fort in Aegir. He never knew his father, a Raidensblud or at least a solider in the Aegirian army. His mother made a household with another man, and Rask gained a half-brother and several Fellmar cousins. Rask ran away and joined the Aegrian army as soon as he could. After seeing far more brutality and evil than he ever imagined, his home is gone, he is a deserter twice over, and he is an exceptionally well-trained killer.

  1. Gustav thinks for a few moments, then says “I would probably make bowmaking tools with rocks and wood from the area. Then I would set small game traps, then pull out the squirrel or rabbit intestines and dry them. Then I would make bow string out of it. Then I would build the bow out of local saplings. Then I would use the bow to kill the elk or bear. I think that would be easier than making big game traps. You would need siege equipment style material to make big game traps.”

    • Telosh nods.

“What if you didn’t have enough time or the other game was too scarce?”

Maybe a deadfall trap using a whole tree? Or a snare with rope and a full sized tree instead of twine and a sapling? Would something like that work? If you had an ax or saw of course…”

      • Gustav listens carefully. After Telosh is finished, Gustav thinks for a few seconds and says:

“As I am not an engineer and wouldn’t be able to imagine what would happen with scaled up moving traps… I would probably create a huge pit in the middle of a game path, cover with thin pine branches and then leaves and cut grass after that.

And then I would check the trap once a day and if a large animal did fall into it, I would throw rocks at its head until fell dead. However I would feel sick if I couldn’t kill it quickly. Would probably only do this if I was starving.”

        • “Yeah, I can only imagine needing to do something like that if a lot of people were starving and there was no other game or food…”

“Now trying to hunt the giant… it might be worth thinking of different large traps we could use… I’ll talk to Red and Alexis…”
