After the group has left the area of the Copper Hills fort and is heading north on the road to explore the area of the three-armed giant, Alexis asks Telosh “Why didn’t you take the sword when you had the chance? These two” he says motioning to Gus and Red who are walking slightly ahead “I get why. But you, I’m still not sure why you didn’t and I’ve been thinking about it since we left the Greyfax estate.”

Telosh’s eyes follows Alexis’ gesture towards Ethelred and Gustav. The Westlander’s gaze returns to Alexis. After a moment, Telosh looks away, lost in thought or perhaps weighing his answer.
“This little group means more to me than it seems you realize Alexis, we have our own path, and the sword… is selfish?”
“That’s not quite right… but the power of the sword… called to my selfishness… that… I don’t trust myself with that sword.”
Telosh finally looks at Alexis, shame and fear evident on his face.
Telsoh looks away after a brief, but uncomfortable silence.
A few awkward steps later, he looks to Alexis, both hopeful and anxious.
“Is it the twice-broken sword? How will we break it?”
“Definitely not the twice-broken sword” Alexis shakes his head slightly for emphasis, then claps Telosh on the back.
“Well, it sounds like you did the right thing with the sword. Well done. It was nice to get a peek at all that knowledge, but that sword is on another path. Perhaps our paths will cross again.” Alexis sounds a little wistful; a little half-smile on his face.
Telosh is clearly relived, and also still anxious.
“We need to find that sword. What can I do to help?”
“First things first. We need to buy ourselves some time to find the sword. And this is an interesting area. We might even find something like The Lost Lamp of Vlatos. There are some indications that the lamp can be found where the Citadel of Pulathi ‘fell’ “.
Alexis gives a clearly excited smile and rise of his eyebrows.
Telosh looks surprised and for a brief moment, perhaps angry or even desparate. His face settles quickly though.
“It’s been over a year since we promised Bora Bloodfist we would break the sword, they are gnolls and all… pearls before swine as you Sutheroni say, but in the Westlands we know not to trust a man who keeps more than six hogs… and gnolls are hungrier than hogs… Is it a really good idea to delay this much longer?”
Alexis seems unconcerned. “What is the timeline of the gods? Sounds like we just need to break the sword before the big battle. We’ll probably be firmly in Hood’s realm by then.”
“She-who-is-fierce needed professionals for this job. The best human treasure hunters there are. Who also wouldn’t run screaming from gnolls.” Alexis gives a wry smile and a nod of his head at the last bit.
“Just wish this job paid better.” Alexis seems to be in good spirits about this topic.
Trish looks at Alexis blankly for a very brief moment, then his face cracks into quiet laughter.
“Pays more?! Ha! Pays more indeed!”
Telosh shakes his head and grows quiet, shrugs his shoulders, and smiles.
“Do we need money? Doesn’t Red have a writ?”
Telosh winks and looks away, not really expecting and answer.
