Sometime in the two weeks after Utiog has been defeated. The group has gathered at the inn to discuss and share.
“I’ve been thinking about the nature of The Dead God. The one who wanders She-Who-Is-Fierce’s hunting ground.
‘He mourns and weeps and is quite unseemly’
Gnolls enslaved by the Dark Hand are trying to find the last of Him.
He weeps because of an ancient wound that is fed with blood daily. This wound is feasted on by The Made… or possibly whomever made The Made.”
“Have I overlooked or forgotten anything about this dead, weeping god?”
“The last of his power is contained in the sword, breaking the sword will allow She Who Is Fierce to cast him out.”
“I’ve been thinking about that. Clearly Bora Bloodfist wants the sword broken. But we might be able to cast out the weeping god, or stop the weeping, another way.”
“I’m not sure the ‘weeping’ is of the crying sort. Given the ancient wound that is feasted on, I wonder if the weeping is more like a sore.”
“Who is this god? That’s what I want to know. Who is a god that is also dead? Hood? Raiden? Torr-Van? Erlik?” Alexis looks at Telosh for the tell-tale sign of excitement whenever this name is mentioned.
“Perhaps this is a god people do not know is dead? Sure hope it’s not a non-human god. Don’t think any of us know much about them.”
“Raiden? Perhaps… Hood? I think not, Erlick? Perhaps, if it’s not simply another name for Hood. The Mother of Secrets raised Torrvan up again…”
” ‘Mother of Secrets’ ” Alexis lets out a little laugh.
“There are so many old gods that might be dead now. Sometimes I wish Bora was around, but mostly, I’m glad he’s not.” Alexis shakes his head a little.
“Mysteries and secrets indeed. The connection between the wound and weeping is interesting. What it went the other way, mourning, weeping, an emotional or spiritual wound rather than a physical, oozing wound?”
Telosh shrugs a bit, but his eyes twinkle.
“Are we even certain this is the correct sword? Has it been broken twice before? Perhaps broken means controlled or tamed, like training a horse or dog?”
“Nice. Thinking like a Westlander. Not sure if that would be better for us or worse.”
“If it is the Sword Chaotic, which I think it is, that might explain how it got un-broken.”
